Great Pioneer Harmonium Maestro of INDIA Late Shri VITTHALRAOJI KORGAONKAR, was born in 1884 and started his music carrier at the age of 5 years. He was a Marathi Stage Singer Actor in the early days of his career, then he started Accompanying on Harmonium in Sangeet Natak (Musical Drama). In 1905 Ustad Abdul Karim Khan a well-known Doyen of Kirana Gharana accepted him as a disciple and gave him training till 1936. Shri Korgaonkar accompanied Ustad Abdul Karim Khan on Harmonium in later's disks recorded and released by HMV (His Masters Voice).

| He was also closely associated with the Great Musician like BAL GANDHARVA and SAWAI GANDHARVA, due to this close association he brought a new style of playing harmonium, in which Pure Gayaki (Style of Singing) of these maestros was reflected. In 1912 he bought Harmoniums Made in Paris by M Kazaril and Co. These harmoniums were of tempered tuning which were not suitable to Hindustani Classical Music of the above great musicians and therefore he invented a New Style of Tuning which is called GANDHAR TUNING. | |
Since 1919 to Aug 1974 he gave thousands of Solo Harmonium Programs on these Harmoniums. In 1928 HMV released his 10 Disks of Solo Harmonium Performances. Number of great musicians, Sangeet Natak Academies and government honored Shri Vitthalraoji. |
